Acutane (sp?) question: Just how bad does acne have to be to get acutane?

I have a friend in high school with terrible ance but she said her face was not covered to a certain percentage required to be prescribed acutane. Her face looked so bad I would surely have thought she was a candidate. Now, as an adult, I have very painful cystic acne a lot of the time. My face stays broken out (always 15-35 blemishes I would say) with an extra painful knot or two most of the time around the jawline or under my jaw. I am not so vain that I care for my looks sake but I am in pain! Am a maybe possible a candidate?

yeah, there is no cure for acne. u can take the best pill out there, that doesn't necessarily mean the acne will go away. however, it might get better, but it won't go away. accutane is prescribed for individuals who have a serious case of acne. if ur case is very mild to moderate, do not use it. accutane is very strong and has a lot of symptoms and u can only take it while under the supervision of a dermatologist/doctor. u need to go for blood tests, u can't be active a lot, it's just a very powerful medicine that totally wipes out the liver, and doesn't even work for everybody. so, unless u have nothing to lose, take it otherwise i wouldn't.
Reply:my doctor said i would be able to use it if i had those "creators" on my face. but you can always ask your doctor to see if your a candidate
